New Refund Policy for MTP
Since we began over seven years ago, the refund policy was simple "If you paid for a class and didn't attend, you got your full tuition back…regardless of when you let us know." Unfortunately this has caused some problems. Class costs are dependant on tuition; when we plan on a certain number of paid students and have less, our programming ability is affected. Many of our classes have waitlists. If someone doesn't show up at the last minute, we can't get to the waitlist to accommodate these anxious students.

We want to be as generous as possible…here's what we will start in the Summer (Jun, Jul, Aug) 2013 season. Students will still be asked to pay within a week of their registration. There will be full tuition refunds up to a week before the class begins. (We can provide a check, credit your card or issue a voucher) Students who cancel within the week before the class start date will forfeit the full tuition paid. If, for whatever reason, MTP has to cancel a class at any time, full tuition paid by students will be refunded.

Let's hope that this system works for all of us. If you have any questions, please contact the MTP office. (861 9751) Thank you for your support.

Master the Possibilities Upgrades the Computer Lab
Our very successful center for lifelong learning has announced a major upgrade for their computer lab. OTOW President, Ken Colen, has approved all new equipment for the ten stations in the lab. According to Director of Education, Daniel Dowd, this will enhance the computer offerings throughout the year. "We expect to schedule over 300 computer related classes in 2013. These have become an integral part of our curriculum and these new computers will insure that we are at the cutting edge of computer education." Marlene Berrio, Education Coordinator at Master the Possibilities, has overseen the growth in computer classes over the past five years. "We have a half dozen of very well qualified and talented instructors. Their input along with the OTOW IT department was most valuable in our decision to propose this initiative." Currently Master the Possibilities does most of their classes in the lab. There are some large lectures/presentations that utilize the Internet and projection system. There are also on line offerings for those who prefer this style of learning. Berrio points out that any of the classes can be "chartered" for specific groups that would prefer a more convenient time. "All we need is the desired class and at least 7 students. We work with instructors to be able to accommodate these groups. We also will attempt to set up classes based on students' suggestions. We listen and try to translate ideas into classes."

The new Computer Lab will be open for all classes offered in the Winter/Spring catalog covering January through May. For more information, feel free to stop by the Master the Possibilities office and Marlene or Sami Odeh can answer your questions...and take your registrations.

Payment for classes can be made by phone at 861-9751. At this time we are not able to accept online payments.

The May/June edition of "Where to Retire" magazine focused on Ocala and On Top of the World Communities was prominent. Towards the end of the piece, the topic was education and Master the Possibilities was mentioned in a very favorable way.

Education: A Predictor of Longer Life
U.S. News & World Report has a very interesting article regarding lifelong learning. Please read it here.

Archaeology Exhibit
For the past few years, there has been a "dig" going on under the direction of professional archaeologist Dr Willet Boyer. Several MTP students were very involved in the dig and cataloging artifacts. Now you can view what they found and learn about communities that lived here thousands of years ago. Stop by the open area at the MTP Center and view the new display. This is a fascinating exhibit that tells us about our past. "Everything old is new again."
